Personal Development & Business coaching
Are you in your forties and do you feel like you don’t know what to do any more?
Have you done everything you were supposed to, and now hate where you are, doubting the career path you have chosen. Is your current role, really the job you want to do? Perhaps, you feel like you’re too old to start another career. You’re not alone. Many people in their forties experience lots of obstacles that get in the way of their professional growth and job satisfaction.
Does it feel you’re being pushed out by the younger generations?
Age discrimination, where younger candidates are often favoured, can leave you feeling undervalued and overlooked. Also, the rapid changing pace of technology can make it challenging to keep up – leaving you feeling out of touch with industry trends and advancements.
Have you reached a point in your career where there is no room for growth?
A desire for status in your current role, with limited opportunities for promotion, or growth, can lead to feelings of frustration and job dissatisfaction. Corporate restructuring can add another layer of uncertainty, leaving you anxious about your future career prospects.
Likewise, there’s a common bias towards youthful innovation, with the assumption that younger employees are naturally more creative and dynamic. This bias can further exclude older workers like yourself, making it harder to compete in the job market and progress in your career.
Have you been made redundant and are finding it difficult to pursue another job?
Underemployment and over-qualification are also common issues. You may find yourself accepting roles below your skill level, or there is the assumption that you are too experienced for positions that match your qualifications.
Are Sunday nights becoming unbearable, and you hate waking up on Monday morning?
Whether you’re in a job you hate, have been made redundant, or feel dissatisfied because the enthusiasm you once had has now disappeared – there could also be underlying health issues contributing to your job dissatisfaction and overall lack of motivation for your job.
Do you get headaches, have trouble sleeping, feel burnt out, or have feelings of depression?
You’re not alone. Many people in their forties find themselves in careers that drain their energy and enthusiasm – they desire something more rewarding. Entering your forties can bring a lot of career-related challenges that impact your well-being and professional satisfaction.
Physical or mental health issues can significantly affect job performance, leading to decreased productivity and increased stress. Staying in a job that doesn’t fulfil you can be detrimental to your health and mental well-being. Managing career demands alongside family responsibilities becomes increasingly difficult, often resulting in burnout from years of continuous work without long enough breaks. This situation may also indicate a career with no advancement opportunities.
Addressing these challenges requires a holistic approach, prioritizing self-care, work-life balance, and strategies to overcome biases and limitations associated with age.

Did you know the average age of an entrepreneur in the UK alone is in their 40s?
So, don’t think you’re too old to start—some of the most successful entrepreneurs started their businesses later in life. Age shouldn’t be a barrier to starting a business you’ll love; it’s a bonus. Use your knowledge and contacts to your advantage. It’s never too late to go after what you lust for; start a business that reflects who you are. Don’t let your age, fear, or the expectations of others hold you back from chasing your dreams.
Many people in their forties and older, dream of starting their own business but don’t know where to begin. This is an age group with huge amounts of experience and skills. Age is no barrier to entrepreneurship and is a great option for older people. People in their forties and above have a huge contribution to make to the small business community.
Older entrepreneurs are a group that is often overlooked. Over 600,000 businesses were started in the UK in the year up to July 2019. The average age of founders was 40. Almost 10,000 of those start-ups were created by entrepreneurs over the age of 60. Plus, 11 start-up owners were aged 90 or above!*

Meet Steve
Steve worked in the construction industry as a C.A.D designer. He worked long hours, getting up early, often in the dark to travel to work. In the evening, by the time he returned home he was often too tired to enjoy the rest of his day. His eating habits were poor and his social life suffered.
Steve spent all day at his desk designing various structures for the company he worked for. Although, Steve enjoyed designing with C.A.D. deep down he knew that working for someone else, on their terms was not what he wanted to do. Plus, he was in his forties and felt that he couldn’t progress much further at his current job.
I’m including Steve’s story here because, it’s a fast and effective way to understand how each of the 5 reasons mentioned above work in the real world.
When Steve came to me he wanted to boost his self-esteem, and find help in formulating his business idea and bringing it to reality. I helped him by prompting new ways to think about business and made him feel like a business owner before he created one.
Steve wanted to get clear on what he wanted to change about his current situation, and with my help he got the clarity he was searching for. Steve wanted to stop being a wage slave, work towards financial freedom, have a better work-life balance, and live a healthier lifestyle.
Having already paid off his mortgage, Steve began to play to his talent strengths – utilising his portfolio of work and list of potential clients he gained in the construction industry.
Steve has now set up his own C.A.D. Design company, and is enjoying working on his own terms. Plus, one of his visions is to take on other staff whom he can help by sharing industry know how. His lifestyle habits have improved, he has returned to the gym and got back into his running, Steve’s diet has received a much needed boost, along with his social life.
I created my first business in 2004, a year later I was awarded an enterprising award for the best business in the area. However, in 2009 I had to close up shop due to the crash of 2008. I then went from one disappointing day job to the next. Never satisfied, I would leave after a couple of years hoping the next one would be better, but deep down I knew that working for others and being told what to do wasn’t for me. This went on for years, and my family was getting anxious – my dad would say, “You’re not getting any younger.” Then, after a near-death car accident, I gave in to my inner desire – I finally admitted to myself; that something had to change, I had to get back on track.
During recovery, a friend suggested I read the book, The Art Of Happiness. This began my journey of discovering what happiness really is. I spent the next few years studying the best coaches and business people in the world. As I healed, I gained clarity, and my own self-development improved. I became physically stronger and mentally healthier. My vision of my future grew clearer – but I had to make it work because working in another dead job, doing the 9-5 for someone else was definitely not what I wanted to do.
In my mid-forties, I earned qualifications and became a development coach and business mentor. I knew from what I learned, and my past experiences I could guide others – give them the courage to go after their dreams. Show them that they can be whatever they want to be and start a business that is not only successful but makes them feel good too.
I can help you find what makes you excited, figure out what you’re good at, and build the confidence you need to succeed. My goal is to help you become a great business owner, help you overcome your doubts and fears, and gain the right mental attitude so that you can launch your dream business. Experience my genuine motivation and support to guide you through your start-up journey.
