1:1 and small group diabetes prevention and weight loss coaching
Have you been diagnosed as pre-diabetic? Do you want to lose weight? Do you struggle to do the simplest of tasks due to lack of energy? Or perhaps you procrastinate and concentrate on the negative more than the positive? Has life got in the way and you’ve let yourself go a little? You’re not alone. Many people are fast approaching obesity, developing Type-2 Diabetes, are physically inactive, and struggle to keep a strong mindset.
Hundreds of thousands of people are just like you – they’re unaware what certain foods do to their bodies. They spend most of their days being sedentary watching hours of TV and eat to comfort themselves when they feel stressed or down.
Most, if not all are prediabetic, or have Type-2 Diabetes with high blood glucose levels, are overweight, lack energy, and put things off like their health plans. Many people want to live their days being active and healthy, to spend more time with family, or to participate in activities with friends. But, they think they’re past the point of help and are afraid to do anything about it.
But what if you could change all that? What if you could wake up each morning energised – knowing that you’re working toward a longer lasting, and happier life with a positive mindset?
Meet Steve C
After a recent blood test, Steve was told by his doctor that he was pre-diabetic. Steve considered himself to be fairly healthy and thought he was doing all the things he was supposed to be doing, but wasn’t aware that his current lifestyle habits were the casue of his high blood glucose and cholesterol levels.
I’m including Steve’s story here because it’s a fast and effective way to understand how each of the 3 tips mentioned above work in the real world.
As Steve was pre-diabetic he needed to lower his blood glucose levels. He also wanted to lose at least 5% of his body weight. Steve wasn’t overweight but felt he had put on a few extra pounds, and could do with being a healthier weight. Steve had tried different diets and weight loss programs in the past, but failed to achieve the results he was hoping for – often going back to his old lifestyle habits. He felt he couldn’t relate to the gym and health gurus on social media with their six packs. But, knew he had to put the work in to get results he wanted. Steve was keen to learn.
With the stresses of his final years at work, Steve often found himself binge eating cake in the car on the way home from work to give him a quick ‘pick me-up’. He would then brush off the crumbs as he entered the house before anyone would notice.
Steve Didn’t want to develop Type – 2 Diabetes, but wanted to enjoy his favourite meals and snacks still. He wanted to have a fitter body with added strength. He also wanted to not worry as much, or put things off and to deal with his stress and cravings better.
By developing new, healthier lifestyle habits Steve reduced his blood glucose and is no longer pre-diabetic. He lost over 8% of his body weight and his cholesterol dropped too.
I started to really pay attention to my own personal development journey in 2017 after a near-death car accident. I was in my early forties and knew I had to finally admit to myself; Something had to change. I had to get my health and mental wellbeing back on track – I had to start looking after myself.
During recovery, a friend suggested I read the book, The Art Of Happiness. This began my journey of discovering what happiness really was. I spent the next few years studying the best coaches, and personal development gurus in the world. As I healed, I gained clarity, and my own self-development improved. I became physically stronger and mentally healthier.
I earned qualifications to became a personal development coach and mental health first aider. I knew from what I learned, combined with my past teaching experiences and knowledge gained from being a health fanatic – I could guide others. Give them the courage to achieve their physical and mental health goals. Show them that they can be whatever they want to be, to make them feel good again, and to live a healthier life.
I later went on to become a DBS cleared certified Health and Wellbing Coach, coaching participants on the NHS National Diabetes Prevention Programme. I would school participants on the effects of Diabetes, how to prevent it, the importance of keeping active for a healthier, happier life, and how to develop a strong mindset to combat cravings.
